Concepções sobre diversidade sexual e de gênero na formação docente: um estudo na Universidade de Cádiz

This article aimed to present a research carried out in the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Cádiz, in the city of Cádiz, Spain, in the year 2019. The research developed in this place sought to analyze the main conceptions on sexual and gender diversity produced by a sample of 100 undergraduate students who were taking the Primary Education Degree and who voluntarily participated in the research. When analyzed from a quantitative point of view, the data collected from the students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Cádiz are quite positive, which partly reflects the commitment efforts of the university professors to address gender studies in their courses. In general, the research seems to point to a great awareness of the school and the university as a secular space and respect for differences. At the same time, controversial issues, such as the adoption of children by transsexual and transgender people, or the constitution of new family models, still seem to defy the limits of acceptability and tolerance of the groups investigated, although even here the numerical proportion of people who are in favor exceeds those who are against. This resistance could be an indication that perhaps the incorporation of the politically correct discourse on sexual and gender diversities still does not reflect a total change in the traditional values of the conception of the family nucleus, possibly bringing new challenges for the future of the teachers in the educational field. However, more studies would be needed to verify this interpretation.
