Abstract
This essay aims to analyze the context of remote teaching activities and teacher’s work in Brazil during the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), based on the premises of the possible constitution of arrangements, captures, and control of the virtual teaching activity and the consequences of the exclusion of some segments of the Brazilian student population. The methodology is organized in the analytical use of Foucaultian categories, such as the panopticon, relations of power-knowledge, governmentality, biopolitics, dispositive, discourse, and regime of truth. We used the works of Michel Foucault (1982a, 1982b, 1986, 2002a, 2002b, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012) and Nietzsche (1974, 1998, 2011), among others, as research references. The panopticon and its use, in this context, are understood as a device for monitoring and regulation of the teacher’s and student’s work. The final reflections seek to form a view of strangeness and invitation to resistance in relation to the regimes of built-up truths regarding the actions and purposes carried out within the scope of Brazilian school education during the pandemic crisis of 2020.
Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual teaching. Panopticon. Power-knowledge relations.
