Abstract

Historically, mental health has been marked by the classic psychiatric model, permeated by violence and prejudice. With the Psychiatric Reform (PR), a new model of psychosocial care was built that contrasted the existing model. In this sense, the Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) came as a strategic device for strengthening PR, with a more human aspect, with new forms of care that allowed the construction of new knowledge and practices. Objective: To identify the skills of mental health professionals at CAPS. Methods: Exploratory research with a qualitative approach. Data collection used the focus group technique. To analyze the data, interpretative data analysis was used. The field for the study was the nine CAPS in the city of Goiânia-GO that provide care to the population with mental disorders and / or the use of alcohol and other drugs. Sixteen (16) health professionals participated in the research, who have been working for at least one year at CAPS, among them: psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, physical education teacher, music therapist, art therapist, pharmacist, occupational therapist, speech therapist. Results: The majority of the professionals who participated in the study are women and the age group was 35-69, with all professionals being effective in the municipality. From this study, four thematic categories were obtained: Formation and Permanent Education; Worker (personal characteristics and satisfaction of the CAPS worker); Institutionalization of the CAPS and Work Process, revealing that the institutionalization of the practices recommended in the scope of psychosocial care suggests that the quality of mental health care may be related to the existing care model in the service, which reinforces collective action and not necessarily in a set of skills inherent to the individual, that is, that regardless of personal skills, or the training of that professional, or the training / continuing education that he will receive, he should develop these practices according to what the service recommends.
