Abstract

Abstract  This is a qualitative research that aimed to know the perception of the nursing staff about safety at work in the Emergency and Emergency Services (SUE) of the Unified Health System (SUS), in a capital of the Midwest region. Fourteen nursing team professionals from seven health units were interviewed. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and digitally recorded. Data collection took place between April and June 2018, whose statements were transcribed and analyzed according to the proposed Content Analysis thematic modality. The category “Perception of the work environment by the nursing staff” and two subcategories were discussed: “Feeling of insecurity” and “Violence in the workplace”. It was found, through the speeches of professionals that the environment in which they perform their activities, is an unsafe place, evidenced by the lack of municipal guard, and mention that they are only to make the security of the heritage. This has facilitated improper access for users in places that are private to professionals. In addition, they live with the feeling of fear, because daily life is marked by violence, both verbal and physical. These questions have contributed to some professionals being afraid and unmotivated to develop their activities. Thus, the working environment for these professionals in the context of the EUS is seen as a place devoid of privacy and security, which influences the quality of services provided to the community.
