This article deals with the importance of fictional literature on student’s academical education, questioning the literature space in Higher Education, especially in Technological Higher Education. By its humanizing purpose, it’s understood that literature contributes to the development of independent, critical and reflective professionals, prepared to comprehend the world and the relations that surround them and capable of exercising their own citizenship. Data from a research done with Technological Higher Education students is analyzed in order to show their reading activity and also to reveal their conceptions about literature. The results show that the major of the surveyed students is not used to reading fiction literature, and those who read it, don’t include literature classics on their reading range, restringing it to best-sellers. With this finding, it is also possible to make a brief reflection about canons matters. Finally, alternatives to promote the student’s contact with literary texts in Higher Education institutions are raised.
