Abstract

Abstract - Objective: to identify the main risk factors for prematurity; To describe nursing care in the face of prematurity. Methodology: exploratory, bibligráfico study with integrative analysis, qualitative of the literature available in conventional and virtual libraries. Results: it was identified that prematurity as a cause of infant mortality has been studied in different countries, and studies have found that innumerable causes are the causes of premature birth, especially those related to the female genital tract, placental changes (placenta previa and premature detachment) and excess amniotic fluid. Other factors include: maternal age (higher incidence in younger mothers), maternal infections, type of pregnancy, type of delivery, apgar at the 5th minute, birth weight, inadequate prenatal care, primiparity (more frequent in the first child). But in most cases, the cause is unknown. Final considerations: It is important that the nursing care of premature newborns is of a quality, it is fundamental to meet the needs of rest, warmth, nutrition, hygiene, observation and continuous care for premature babies. However, it is considered that nursing interventions should be directed to help in the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life, showing, therefore, that it should meet not only the biological needs of the premature infant, but also the emotional needs.
