Abstract

The interest in narratives and autobiographies arises in the context of the crisis of “enlightenment reason” and modernity. There was an exhaustion of structuralist and positivist models for explaining the world, leading to new approaches and categories within scientific knowledge and the Human Sciences. It can be said that the research field History of Life or Autobiographies emerged, among other things, to rescue the subject's action in the context of social relations. On the other hand, the questions posed by this new field of research undoubtedly open perspectives for the History of Education and for the societies of the 18th century, such as, for example, the colonial society in Brazil. Thus, in the following lines, we seek to characterize the methodological proposal of the autobiographical research and point out the contributions to the History of Education in Colonial Brazil, especially in the Captaincy of Goiás.
