Abordagem Lexical, Linguística de Corpus e Enem: uma proposta de ensino de língua inglesa

This paper aims to partially present an English language teaching (ELT) proposal aimed at preparing students for the Brazilian National High School Examination – Enem, using as theoretical-methodological framework the Lexical Approach – LA (LEWIS, 1993) and Corpus Linguistics (CL) as methodology. In addition, we will present five exercises produced in the scope of this proposal in order to exemplify their application in ELT classrooms. Considering the target audience’s needs, high school students, in terms of being prepared to attend Enem’s English language section, we follow LA’s teaching and learning principles by proposing lexicon teaching through chunks, since much of the lexis of natural languages is stored, used and retrieved in chunks by speakers (LEWIS, 1997). We use CL as methodology due to its rapidity to analyze texts as well as chunks identification by using computational tools, which is a fundamental aspect in the scope of this proposal. Part of this ELT proposal derives from our experience in public high school educational context, between 2016 and 2017, in the Federal University of Goiás – Jataí Campi’s English Language and Literature subproject of the Institutional Scholarship Program for Teaching Initiation. We aim this paper demonstrates the advantages from the confluence of language teaching, LA and CL on lexis teaching aimed at preparing students applying for Enem.
