The education of deaf people has been a well explored subject after the recognition of Libras as an officially Brazilian sign language. However, many deaf people for many reasons go to high school without the satisfactory knowledge of their natural language. Thus, this participant research had as objective to elaborate a proposal of a questionnaire of the history of the language, in order to help teachers diagnose the bilingual profile of deaf people, so that they can better understand the needs of these students and contribute to a quality education and development of these students. In the article, we present some definitions about bilingualism and we discuss the concept of the deaf as a bilingual individual. Next, we present our research path that includes the discussion of the use of the language history questionnaire, as a data collection tool for the diagnosis of the bilingual profile of the deaf. Our participants were six deaf students from city X, state X and data were collected during the year 2016. Our results, from the application of the questionnaire, allow us to conclude that the education of deaf people is a complex process and that is why it is done a study of the bilingual profile of these individuals as a way to capture their characteristics and diagnosing problems that surround the processes involved in the education of the deaf should be included in the studies that permeate the teaching and learning of the deaf.
